Broadband plasmonic half-subtractor and digital demultiplexer in pure parallel connections

Abstract Nanophotonic arithmetic circuits requiring cascaded Boolean operations are difficult to implement due loss and footprint issues. In this work, we experimentally demonstrate plasmonic half-subtractor demultiplexer based on transmission-lines. Empowered by the unique polarization selectivity in surface plasmon modal behaviors, both realized without cascading. The of can be performed using a single laser beam with three predefined linear polarizations. All our experiments 56 fs providing greater than 12.5 THz optical bandwidth. experimental results found excellent quantitative accordance numerical calculations. photonic integrated circuit framework proposed work could pave future avenue towards realization highly compact, multi-functional, on-chip processors.
